It is clear that I was able to accomplish my goals through this internship. Not only did I accomplish those goals, I learned so much more about myself and the possibilities for my future career. This experience was certainly a positive one that I will never forget and thankful to organization for providing. There is not just one important lesson I learned from this internship but many. Just a few of them being not to judge others who are different no matter their current situation, if you are happy and calm then the member you are talking to is able to give you that same respect, and lastly when you work together in an organization you can great the best result in service to the public.
From this internship I have learned that I can I see my self working in the field of public service after I graduate. The ability to help others and make a positive different in the lives of others does not stop after you have helped them but creates a chain reaction. CalOptima is a large organization and provides multiple services across a large area of California which can often be difficult, but from what I have seen and learned during my internship it is clear that they will be able to accomplish much more in the future. I look forward to applying for a permanent position after graduation.

Thank You Letter
Dear Health Care Talent and CalOptima Department of Health Education and Disease Management,
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the amazing opportunity you gave me these past few months. My internship taught me so much about myself as well as the organization. In providing pubic healthcare service to the local community I was able to determine that I would enjoy a career in helping others in any given field. Creating a positive impact through the providing health education to members was a new experience that I will never forget. In addition the ability to learn and interact with different departments supported furthering my general knowledge and education of how a business is able to run smoothly as well as follow compliance regulations given by the government.
I look forward to continue my education and earning a degree that could support a position within your company. I will take the lessons and knowledge I have learned and apply them to not only my time at school but in my day life. During my time at your office I was able to improve on my communication, computer, and management skills that will be extremely after graduation. It is important that I also thank those that supported my development, the entire department of Health Education and Disease Management took me under their wing and treated me as if I was part of the team and for that I am extremely thankful. The professional relationships and great memories will not be forgotten. Once again thank you for this opportunity and I look forward to the future that you have helped shape.
Your truly,
Ashley Thompson

The Muscle of CalOptima
The strengths or muscle of CalOptima is in the ability to provide services to such a large population that is extremely diverse. Services and operations departments allow for a the company to operate together and smoothly in supporting their members. The domino effect can be seen very clearly at CalOptima as one department often relies on many others. A specific example that shows the strength of the organization is how the Health Education department is able to work with the Cultural and Linguistics department to publish educational material on multiple conditions and diseases in the 5 threshold languages in the community and stay in accordance with regulations of being culturally sensitive.
If I was in charge of the organization there are just a few adjustments I would make. The first would be to evaluate the management of every department on a quarterly basis to ensure quality. I found that when management in certain departments become complacent it often effects other employees and creates issues between the different levels. Another adjustment I would make it ensure that all employees are with co-workers within their same department. Due to the size of the company it was often difficult to create department bonding as employees were placed in open spots rather than with their department. Lastly, I would update all information systems with the support and guidance of those that use them most rather than the management. A happy employee is one that is heard and is supported by their superiors in efforts to make their position more efficient and easier. I believe these would be the changes I would make if in charge of such a large organization similar to CalOptima.

Career Services Event
So on August 26th I attended a webinar within Career Service for Interview Tips and Tricks. This experience was new as I had never attended a webinar. Although we got off to a rocky start with the sound not working, I really enjoyed the topic and the discussion within the webinar. The start of the webinar was a basic review of what to do in an interview and how to prepare. A new bubble of thought I learned about was the impact of social media when applying for positions. Many employers use a tool that allows them to see your social media profiles. It is important for that reason that your social media profile remains clean and professional as much as possible.
The next part of the discussion was on different interviews and how to prepare for them. Before even applying for a company it is important to research them, and determine if they are the right fit for you as well as being prepared to answer questions if there is an application process. After being accepted for an interview, preparing for the type of interview is important. A new tip I was given was that in group interviews it is important to include everyone within the interview in your answer that way the employers know you work well in a group. For phone and web interviews it is important that you act as if it was in person and that you are in a setting that fits those needs. I extremely enjoyed the webinar and look forward to future events. :)

The Million Dollar Question
What would you do if someone gave you a million dollars? A regular conversation starter and sometimes a conversation finisher is also an interesting question to answer. A million dollars today is not the same it was a century ago, and it will not be the same a century from today, but it is still a lot of money at any one given time. A million dollars also comes with a lot of responsibility and can often be overwhelming as often seen by lottery winners. I believe that if I had a million dollars I would save, spend, and donate within reason.
I would first save about a quarter of a million dollars for my future children's education including college as well as some possible traveling so that they are able to be exposed to life in other areas of the world. Spending some of that money would be next with the hopes that it will have an impact in other peoples lives through the system of economics. I would most likely improve my home and adopt another animal creating a loving home for a large family. I would also most likely try to go back to school if needed to further my career development and personal learning interest. Lastly I would donate a quarter of the money to multiple charities as I believe we as a generation can have a positive change in the world if we work together. The reality that life revolves around money is true, but with that money comes the ability to positively effect lives and create better opportunities for others. I do not know yet which charities I would give to but most likely they would involve animals, children, and those in the military. I hope that this will lead to a chain reaction and that we can make a difference in the world together!

Superhero's and Super Powers
As a child you always wonder and suggest different super-powers you would want if they were real from what you have seen in the movies. When I was a child I wanted to have the super power of flight or be invisibility in hopes that I could do things and not get in trouble or travel around the world. Now as an adult my choice of super power has changed in that I would want the power of taking other peoples powers. It is often the case that we witness events in life that we could change and that most of the time they are only changed when on the big screen. By having the ability to take other's powers away and use them yourself, you have the ability to show how those powers can be used for a more positive purpose. I am guessing this choice will change again when I have learned more and seen more in my life, but for right now I think it is a pretty good power to have.
In talking about super powers one cannot go without mentioning their favorite superhero. My favorite superhero is Thor. As a demi-god (half human-half god) he has been given superpowers by a higher belief while most of his co-star characters have been given powers through medically enhanced objects or chemicals. In addition it is often the case that he is using his powers to save others rather than to save himself or for justice within the country. Long beautiful hair is just an added bonus that adds to her appearance making him the clear choice of the best superhero.

My Hero
My hero is my mother. I know that sounds extremely cheesy but she has had the greatest positive impact in my life to this day. Growing up my mother made sure that we were taken care of and lived in a comfortable lifestyle. That does not mean that her life was comfortable and easy, and I can tell you from the stories she has shared that she is a survivor in the most basic terms. I admire her strength and hope one day that I can be as amazing of a person as she is and will be as a grandmother one day.
My mother grew up in Seal Beach, CA; a California girl just like me with a mother and father that worked hard and lived a nice comfortable life. Her father (my grandfather) traveled all over the world for government business and has often told us about his crazy adventures as well as trips that they went on together. Her mother (my grandmother) was a caring mother to her three children but also a hard worker when in the workforce. With her parents being such great supporters and role models my mother decided to follow in their foot steps and join the workforce. To this day she is widely known within the companies she works for as being one of the most progressive and hardest workers often achieving high success and respect from her co-workers and management. I hope to one day be as respected in my field as she is in hers.
My mother is my role model in another sense in that she is a survivor. She meet my father during high school and decided that after one semester of college it was not the life she wanted and came back to marry a man back home. This was not what my grandparents wanted for their daughter as they saw a bright future with a college degree. After the marriage my mother gave birth to me as well as my younger sister, both events extremely joyful. However, that time was short lived as my mother was prideful in her work and wanted to continue working against my father's wishes. This lead to a very painful time that broke our family. A few years later she remarried a wonderful man that has been an amazing influence in my life as well as made my mother happy again. After all these events in her life my mother has remained focused and strong in creating a happy home an comfortable life for herself as well as her children and for that reason she is my role model and hero.

PUBLIC SERVICE
CalOptima demonstrates public service at the very basic core in the mission and purpose of the organization. They are a company that serves the general (MediCal and Medicare) population of Orange County. The setting of Orange county is more suburban than urban, but is a large area that accounts for many cities north and south with 5 different languages spoken. Public service in my perspective is the ability to serve a community within any industry that is supported through the state or federal government. With that perspective CalOptima fits that description as they are fiscally as well as regulated by the state government per federal requirements to provide public healthcare to the specific population when requirements are met per the member.
I also believe that this internship has been one of the greatest experiences I can have as my planned degree is public service and public policy with a concentration in business. In interning with such a large public agency I have been able to gain real world experience in the operations of how public agencies work and support their community. This internship has confirmed that I would like a career that includes public service in any given field. I look forward to learning even more after I graduate!

If I Could Change Myself
If there was anything I could change about myself there would be two traits I would change. More confidence and better concentration would be the most likely traits I would change about myself if given the chance. I have tried different tools and gone to different classes with the hopes that it would help, but the reality is that we all have flaws. I have more traits that I would like to change, but these two are the most important ones at this time that need to be develop.
As a young woman social media and expectations are extremely influential, but if you have the right amount of confidence those influences do not create such a large negative impact. Confidence applies to all areas of life, professional and personal, and supports the ability for a person to develop and gain the support of others. Currently I am confident in my professional life and a little bit in my personal life, but I believe there is room for improvement. Secondly I would like to have a better ability to concentrate. As a student concentration is key when taking a test as well as studying. When I am in a quiet room or all alone it is often very difficult to focus as I like to day to day dream, and that is often the reason why I study at places like Starbucks where there is a lot going on around me as I am able to focus. my plan to improve on these changes that I would like to see is to be more aware of when I am faulting on them and just practice on being the best person I can be for myself and others.

Disney, Need I Say More?
Disney movies and Disneyland have been a constant in my life since I was a little girl. I am not a crazy fan in that I have not seen all of the movies, but I do know most of the princesses and I have been on all the rides at the amusement park. Growing up with such an influence has taught me to believe in myself and things one cannot see, to have faith. Happily-ever-afters are the stories of fairy-tales and are created to keep the innocence of the youth. Disney has created a world that fosters that innocence but also believe that anything you set your mind to is possible. This has been the greatest influence in my personal life in any goals I set for myself.
My favorite ride at Disneyland is Space Mountain. I am a thrill seeker, and as the ride is a roller-coaster it is a perfect fit. The ride is extremely fast and is set to great music that enhances the loops and turns creating the perfect ride for any thrill seeker. My favorite Disney movie is more current animated film, Finding Nemo. The story is a classic one of an over bearing parent learning to come to terms with his child going off to the real world and the dangerous adventures that occur causing him to loose his way but then make it home with the help of friends. It is a personal favorite as I love the ocean and the characters involved in developing a parent-child relationship. I also can not forget the character Dory, who although is forgetful creates a sense of comic relief and ability to accept those that are different and struggle in life.

LEADERSHIP!
Leadership plays a large role in my internship as I am learning about different leadership styles as well as the capabilities that come with that position. I have an immediate supervisor that I communicate with daily and support as well as the director and managers of the split style department. The leadership styles are very different between the three I report to and support. My immediate supervisor has the leadership style of being laid back and creating tasks for me that allow me to use my creativity as well as develop my independent judgment. We meet weekly to go over my current tasks and any questions that I might have that are important to the internship.
One of the managers I support that my supervisor reports to has a leadership style of micromanaging. I believe this is due to her previous position at her previous place of work as she did not have anyone reporting to her and often had to complete the work herself. It has been a struggle learning how to work with a micromanager, but a good lesson to learn when working in the real world with different types of leadership. The last style of leadership that I work with is the director of department. She is often out of town, attending workshops or meetings required by the state, creating a leadership style that relies of communication via email and phone when needed.
In my current position I am able to display leadership by taking charge of certain tasks as well as being involved with business related programs at lunch that support professional development. Many of my co-workers and superiors display their leadership skills in the staff meetings explaining current status on tasks as well as any future projects.

Future Plans
Where do I see myself in 5 years? Well there are two areas of my life that I think will have changed since I was in college. The first being my professional life and the second being my personal life. I have the motto and belief that events in life happen for a reason and it is important that they happen. I am hoping with the support of my family and educational status that I will lead a healthy and happy lifestyle!
In my professional life I see myself in 5 years holding a management position within a stable and established company. From previous research it is very likely that I will be working in the public sector, but where in the sector I work is still being decided. As long as I am serving others and making the world a better place for everyone than I believe I will be accomplishing my career goals. In addition I am hopeful that my future career will support furthering my education by paying for a Master's degree as they are often very expensive and time consuming. With such support within the company, I look forward to a position that will support my personal life as well.
A family, a comfortable sized house and a dog is where I see myself in my personal life 5 years from now. I am hoping that my career will be able to support the lifestyle I see for myself, or at least have the additional support of my significant other. I currently enjoy the finer items in life and I would like to keep that for my future. I would also predict that in 5 year I would be almost finished paying off my students loans and saving for my future children's college funds as I know how expensive college has been and would like to give them the same opportunity I have been given by my grandparents. Although this might not seem much for what I see for myself in 5 years, it is just the start and I believe it can only get better from there.

Interview with my Supervisor
On my first day of the internship I learned that the management of the department would be changing within that week, so my supervisor and I were taking on new roles at the same time. This opportunity created a great collaborative experience in we used each other to determine the best plan of action. Her responsibilities of course were much more important and intense than mine, but it was still an opportunity to learn about the different levels within a career. As the supervisor of Health Education at CalOptima, she was in charge of ensuring that members were receiving the proper education and responses to their request. In addition she supported the department in developing educational programs and events for both members and office personnel to stay in order with compliance regulations. Providing quality healthcare education and opportunities is her passion and it can be seen in her work today.
The role of supervisor for the department is not an easy role and requires hard work and patience. Her previous position was a senior health educator, interacting with members providing services and education per request. Now she has less member interaction but knows that her job is not any less impactful to the members. Along with experience a Master's in Public Health supports her current position. Now it is not required but it is certainly an added bonus and often can be accomplished with the support of a government organization or successful company. An important piece of advice she passed on was to remember that we are here to help others and not to judge. We live in a society that views disabilities in a negative light and in reality it is what makes us all different. From this piece of advice I am extremely interested in a career that is in the field of healthcare for the sole purpose of being able to make a positive impact in the lives of others.

Career Services Event USAJOBS webinar
Currently I am sitting in on the Federal Jobs webinar for the website USAJOBS. It is a great resource for those in the public sector looking for other internships as well as positions. The website is so large which can be scary when first looking at it but the webinar helps navigate and understand the steps to find the position you are looking for. There were a lot of questions due to the high involvement from other universities, but that only made the experience better. Specific to internships make sure to check out Pathways.
The first part was to understand what you are looking at and how to determine if you are able to apply to the position in the first place. It is well known that working for the federal government does not always pay the best but an interesting fact that I learned was that many agencies they can increase your pay due to locale, but all under the specific level allowances. All of this can be defined or searched for in any specific positions. The next section was how to read a job announcement in that there are often too many applications to jobs that people do not qualify for in order to work. Touching back on the levels (GS) many announcements also have specific level requirements.
A great question that was asked was do you have to have the degree before you able to the job? The answer was not, but that they could be looking for someone who already has the degree, but make sure you have it by the time you start the job. Specially agencies have different hiring times so make sure you contact the agency to determine when best to apply.

Adventure of a lifetime!
Not a day goes by where I do not think about my trip to Europe with my Girl Scout sisters. London to Paris to Florence to Rome, what an adventure at such a young age. This trip started about 10 years earlier to the trip. Girl Scouts is an a great organization that supports the development of young girls and their skills. I would not be the same person it if was not for Girl Scouts, but back to the trip. So 10 years prior to the trip we made an agreement that if we stayed together and graduated high school we would save our earned money from product sales and go to Paris. As years progressed we added and dropped girls from our group going back to the original five at the very end and all being best friends. Within the 10 years we went back and forth on going to Paris, but when the time came we found the Educational Tour foundation and they had a special program just for Girl Scouts. Three days in London, visiting many landmarks but also one of the Girl Guides of the World Centers known as PAX Lodge. A peace lodge meant for any Girl to stay at while traveling and exploring the local surroundings. I am one of many girls who have visited but it was truly a privilege to say that I have been. If there would be any place that I would visit that I have already been to it would be London.
The next leg of the trip was Paris. Two years earlier I had been to Paris with my grandparents, so I was often the translator (I speak conversational French) and tour guide. It is not to say that specific leg of my trip was bad, but more that it was just a new experience. There was one night that did not go as planned and turned into an adventure that allowed us to explore the area without a tour guide. Paris to me has endless abilities to explore but is another center of the world that supports diversity. At the Eiffel tour it is clear why it is a wonder of the world to so many. Paris will always have a special place in my heart.
Italy was the last leg of the trip four our group, but not the end of us forever. As many of were going off to different states to attend college the time spent in Italy brought us even closer together. We started on the overnight train from Paris to Florence and that was an interesting ride as many of us did not sleep. Once in Florence we received a tour of a ceramic and leather sellers that make their products and sell them only locally. The last day of activities in Italy was spent in Rome at the Vatican. I left speechless as well as educated about art and religion and without a single taste of gelato! I hope that one day you are able to have an adventure similar to mine and learn about the world outside of a book.
The next leg of the trip was Paris. Two years earlier I had been to Paris with my grandparents, so I was often the translator (I speak conversational French) and tour guide. Career Services Advising Meeting Outcome
So on August 27, 2015 I went to the career services center and meet with a career services advisor. Going in I thought well she is going to tell me information that has been drilled into my brain since high school. The reality was much different. I did go in with a plan of asking what careers and job titles support a skill of detailed scheduling but that are within the public service industry as I want a career where I serve others. She did ask me a number of questions regarding my previous work history and what type of tasks I enjoyed at those positions. It was clear then that I was going to receive more from this meeting than I expected. With that we discussed future educational options as well as different types of career paths I could explore.
In regards to my education we discussed considering going to law school and working for the government within the background of law. My concern was that I was starting so late as well as the amount of school still left to do, and with that she suggested a Master's in legal studies at Arizona State University. I have never heard of the program or the degree but after further research it would be a considerable option for an extra year as well as a concurrent degree. The other option would be to attempt to earn my Master's in Public Policy at University of California, Irvine. Either option would require more consideration as well as another appointment to make sure it was even an option. With all of these different possibilities it is important that I still consider current work status. Internships would support my degree as well create a more real world experience to the specific job title I am seeking.
I was surprised at the outcome and I have a lot to research as well as consider for my future. I do plan on scheduling another appointment soon to practice my interview skills as well look over my resume and current career opportunities!

Snickers.
Snickers, period. Many think of a cookie or candy whereas I think of my best friend. Snickers is the name of my dog and my life changed forever the day I saw him in the pet store window. Before Snickers I was terrified of dogs due to a traumatic experience I had as a child with large dogs and animals in Texas. Since the experience I would avoid going to places or making friends where there would be dogs. It created a number of issues and I often missed out on a number of opportunities that I now regret. But I have the belief that events in life happen for a specific reason, and that reason was for Snickers to come and change my life forever.
My mother found Snickers at the local mall in a pet store window. She had not been much of a pet person but it was clear that from the moment they caught eyes they were hooked and that Snickers would come home with us that day. We went over a few names, but the only one that seemed to stick was Snickerdoodle, Snickers for short. His name fitted him even better when he would jump to sit at the table with us for dinner. He was clearly a member of our family from the start. When he turned 2 years old we had a scare in which we almost lost him forever. Due to his eating habits and breed (Puggle- Pug/Beagle) he suffers from Diabetes Type 2. For dogs this is a serious condition that is often difficult to manage when not caught early. Thankfully my parents and I learned how to probably care for him for the rest of his hopefully long life. I miss him everyday and try to Skype as much as possible but I will see him soon enough and he knows that I love him. It is true what they say. Dog is man's best friend.

Sports
One look at me and you would probably not think this girl likes sports, but you would be wrong. Now I am a die-hard sports fan, but I do enjoy a good game and time at a sports event and stadium. Football, Hockey, and Baseball are the top three sports I like to watch on television or in person. I have never played sports in my life and often was too busy to watch the games. That all changed when I went to college and had the time to explore my options and the teams.
I went to my first football game my freshman year of college and although we lost the game, it was the excitement of the crowd and the passion for a team that pushed my interest to learn more. From that day on I was going to be a fan of football. Living in Washington it was almost a death sentence if you were not a Seattle Seahawks fan, and although I was a home team- San Diego Chargers fan- I still supported the Seahawks when they went to the Superbowl both years in a row. Although I may not know a lot about the rules and positions on the field, it is the passion of the players and their supporters that have made me a fan.
Hockey and Baseball are on my list due to my hometown and the popularity of the sport within my area. The Los Angeles Angels and the Los Angeles Kings are the two other sports teams that I follow when I can. Hockey and Baseball are often during the school season so it becomes difficult to watch the games not to mention it is always better to see them in person and college budgets do not allow for that luxury. I do plan in the future seeing more sports games in all of my favorite sports for my favorite teams!

A Cali Girl in Arizona
From my bio, you all know that I am from around the Disneyland area in Orange County, California. Living there and living here is certainly different. As a California girl I have been subjected to the stereotype of being extremely busy or extremely relaxed when the reality is that I am little bit of both. In addition there is the pressure of looking good and having the perfect life with a great partner and loving parents. I am lucky that I am comfortable with whom I am and that I have supportive parents.
Another piece of information that is important to my education is that I previously attended Washington State University. Life in Arizona is certainly different than life in Washington. This journey started my Senior year in high school when I was applying to colleges. I applied to 5 colleges and was selected to decide between Arizona State and Washington State. I visited both in hopes that it would create a clear indicator of where I should attend, but it was just the exact opposite. I received a large reality check when I visited ASU Tempe in that it was my new future
and a large campus to be at. So when I went to WSU I new what to expect and felt more comfortable, and for that reason I selected that school. I had two very different weather selections to choose from and as a girl from California it was one that I looked forward to. Another reality check came my first winter in Washington.
For girl that had never been in snow this was certainly new and I was not prepared. After my second winter I realized I was not meant for snow and that reason I looked into transferring to another school closer to home and weather that I could live in. My intentions were to move back to California in efforts to also save money by only having to pay for in-state tuition, but sadly not many schools in California were able to transfer my credits. Thankful, Arizona State University has the option of evaluating classes to determine how they would transfer and support a degree. In addition there was a more creative and applicable degree that I was able to earn to support my future career in public service. It was a win-win with an added bonus of being considered for WUE. And with that I am completing my degree at Arizona State University soon and looking forward to starting my career back in California!

Turning 21!
Today I turned 21. An important age in our society. It is at this age you are allowed many privileges not granted to those of a younger age. It is also an indicator you are getting older. With every passing age life seems to be more complicated but at the same time it can be rewarding. This has certainly been the case for me. I have been a student since the age of 5 and soon I will be graduating with a college degree. A lot has clear happened within those years, school being my main priority. Next would be my family as I have a large family that have all wished me happy birthday and to treat myself to something special today after work.
For my birthday I am going to San Diego with my parents for some quality relaxation time for the weekend. Usually 21 year olds go to Las Vegas and drink and party often almost forgetting that night, but I would rather remember and spend it with my family. With most of my family being all over the map it is often difficult, so I do plan on celebrating when I come home for a few days near Christmas. The weekend with my parents will be special though as they are paying for the trip for me to meet them out there as I am on a college budget and could not afford it otherwise. San Diego, CA has a special place in my heart as that is where the best memories of family time have occurred as well as enjoying the culture. I look forward to the weekend ahead and the life after graduation!

Internship Informtion and Schedule
From my previous post I mentioned the company I am interning for HealthCare Talent through CalOptima. This might sound a little confusing so let me clarify, just to make it easier.
HealthCare Talent is a scholarship agency that places students with large stable and established companies with the goal that the student will develop real world experience in temporary positions. These positions can have any date range as well be for any department. I was placed with CalOptima which is a public healthcare agency in the state of California for the Orange County population served by Medicare and Medi-Cal. The company provides the needed tools for members to receive care short term and long term.
My internship is in the department of Health Education and Disease Management at CalOptima. For this department I will be supporting a large team in a two section department in daily activities as well as special events and projects. In serving such a large population like Orange County, the demand for health education per multiple health topics as well as support in managing common diseases and conditions is at the highest volume in years. With such a high intake scheduling as well as sending out information has become very difficult, but per regulations must be completed within 5 days of contact from the member. So I am interning to support the department with their high volume intake in hopes that it will relieve some of the stress within the department as well as determine more efficient process for the future. In addition per federal regulations ICD-10 coding is in effect at the beginning of the school year within the healthcare industry, but many doctor's offices and clinics are not prepared for this update. So part of my internship is supporting and preparing for trainings for doctors and professionals within our network- external and internal- for the beginning of the year.

A Day in the Life
A typical day at my internship:
My day starts off by preparing my work area on both floors (7th and 10th) making sure that it is clean and ready for my specific given task. After preparing I go on a coffee run for anyone in the department or prepare the meeting room for a special events. It is often the case that the meetings require a breakfast set up and it is my duty to make sure that the catering staff are given anything they might need. After that I assist my co-workers in processing request and referrals for health information or programs. CalOptima works with the community in providing two options for Obesity members seeking support and weight management programs. If the member is seeking information or specific support on weight management and nutrition they are sent to a health coach. Disease Management is assigned members when a referral is processed for one of three specific conditions. If the member is seeking or the doctor requests health information they are often mailed information in the form of handouts. It is a long and complicated process that uses a special system that is still in the developing stages so it often takes most of the day.
When I am not processing referrals or requests I am either entering evaluation data from events and documentation, inventory, or completing any other tasks needed by the department. Similar to an everyday job my hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM with a half hour lunch. Every Friday I have my one on one session with my supervisor to go over the week and the tasks I have completed as well as any upcoming tasks. I have really enjoyed my time here and look forward to developing my skills.

Introduction and Bio
Hello World!
My name is Ashley Thompson and it is only clear that you have come to this blog to find out about me and my internship!
Well here is some basic knowledge about me that I promise is not the same as my Resume (well maybe just a little!)
My name is Ashley Thompson and it is only clear that you have come to this blog to find out about me and my internship!
Well here is some basic knowledge about me that I promise is not the same as my Resume (well maybe just a little!)
- I am from Stanton, California; but I say I am from Anaheim because people know that area better as Disneyland and I can see the fireworks from my room.
- I am a transfer student from Washington State University and left due to the snow and the better degree opportunity at Arizona State University. Plus Arizona has the better weather and is closer to home. By the way my degree is Public Service and Public Policy with a concentration in Business.
- My future career goal is to work in an industry that impacts the public in a positive aspect either in the department of regulatory or government affairs. The second option is to work for a university in their counseling services in any given major.
- I am a Girl Scout of 13 years and very proud of that fact. The organization gave me confidence as well as the ability to travel the world. Just recently my four Girl Scout sisters and I went to Europe (London, Paris, and Italy) as a promise we made to each other. The promise was that if we stayed together till the end and graduated from high school we would save up enough to travel together... and guess what, we made it happen.
- Develop an understanding of the importance of public service is in the field of healthcare to an underserved and diverse population that would influence my future care choices.
- To witness processes within a large business including the outcome and as well the actions required to make it more efficient if possible.
- Challenge my current knowledge and professional skills in hopes of fostering even more development as well as creating a space for general learning.
